A Single Review, A Legal Dispute

Facts:

Our client runs a bag repair shop known for its good workmanship and loyal customer base. One day, a customer came in with a bag that already had visible defects. Before starting any work, the team clearly explained and showed her the condition of the bag.

Despite this, the customer made unreasonable demands and pressured the shop to provide additional repairs that were never agreed upon.

While our client was still trying to resolve the matter with extra service in good faith, the customer posted a false and damaging review on Google, making completely untrue accusations. She even used insulting words against our client’s staff.

The post caused serious reputational harm to our client’s business. With no other option, our client engaged us for legal assistance.

Upon review, we found that the customer was actually a tourist in Malaysia and would be leaving the country in just 5 days. Given the urgency, we immediately issued a Notice of Cease and Desist, demanding that she remove the defamatory comments. We also advised our client to lodge a police report and take the necessary steps to preserve their rights.

After several rounds of legal correspondence and negotiation, the customer eventually agreed to delete the review. This case serves a reminder to all the online user, A comment is not just a comment, if it’s false and damaging, it may expose you to legal consequences.
