Fighting Back Against Digital Blackmail: Injunction Granted to Protect Victim of Intimate Image Threats

Facts:

What happens when trust is betrayed in the worst possible way?

Our client was in a relationship with someone she trusted deeply. During the course of that relationship, her then-boyfriend secretly recorded their intimate moments. These recordings were made with or without full consent, but what’s worse is what happened after the relationship ended.

When she decided to end things, the relationship turned sour. That’s when the threats began.

The ex-boyfriend started using the private recordings to emotionally manipulate our client. He threatened to release the videos if she didn’t reconcile with him. He claimed he would hack into her Facebook account. He harassed her through messages and calls. The intent was clear: to control her through fear, shame, and emotional blackmail.

Our client, a brave young woman, had endured enough. She approached us for help, and we immediately took action. We filed for an injunction in court to prevent the ex-boyfriend from releasing, sharing, or using the intimate materials in any way. The legal process brought pressure, and eventually, the defendant agreed to a settlement: to delete and permanently erase all recordings and images, and to cease all contact and harassment moving forward.

This case is a stark reminder that digital abuse is real. Recording intimate acts without consent, and using them as leverage, is not just immoral, it’s illegal.

To those who feel trapped or blackmailed in similar situations: you have the right to say no, the right to end a relationship, and the right to reclaim your peace. The law is on your side.
